Saber's Knee Surgery

Donation protected
Hello friends and family, Wednesday night (10/10) there was a little incident... I was playing with Saber and had tossed a mini pop fly ball towards him, as the ball was going over his head he had made a wierd backwards jump/corkscrew kinda thing. Where he was and how he landed, which was about a 5-6" drop from the grass onto the driveway, resulted in a broken leg (his back right),  the bone he broke is the human equivalent to a fibia bone in your shin. Took him to the vet and here were my options

1. Amputation of the leg
2. An in house surgery
3. Travel Surgeon doing surgery
4. Worst case scenario put him down

His present condition- Saber is 10.5 years old. He got an A+ from the vet as far as blood work and overall physical shape. Vet says he could easily leave another 4-5 years no problem and was very impressed with the state he is in at his age. After learning this I had immediately eliminated putting him down.

The Vet said the in-house surgery he would attempt, but between the success rate (which was low), recovery time, and the severity of the fracture he was not comfortable doing the procedure, and it could easily lead to amputation anyway. And the option to amputate is still on the table, but I cannot do that to my best friend. A situation of teaching an old dog new tricks, and yes he could easily live with 3 legs, but it would never be the same.

So I have chosen to go with the surgeon doing the surgery. This route takes him on a much faster recovery time, and the right way to do the surgery the first time and be done with it. The surgery is scheduled for Tuesday 10/16.  And with any surgery there is a chance of him not making it. But I owe it to Saber to give him the best option.

This is where I need help, and everyone please believe me I hate asking for donations, and if I had another option I would pursue it. And I totally understand financial hardship, but its not for me. Its for a very loving, loyal, and many could argue one of the best dogs around. He has touched the lives of so many people, and like many pets has gotten me through the downs in life. I owe it to my best friend to give him the best course of action. All donations will go towards the payment of surgery, vet bills, and medication as he does have a long road ahead. I did pursue the care credit, and was approved of a small amount. I have a steep hill to climb and Saber and I both would immensely appreciate it. Thank you for your time and donations!!!
