Adelaide and Hills Koala Rescue - 1300KOALAZ Inc. are privileged to have many members who are also part of SAVEM (South Australian Veterinary Emergency Management).
New legislation came in after the Sampson Flat fires, when, individuals entered the fire grounds without the permission of the CFS putting themselves and the CFS firefighters in danger. This new legislation includes heavy fines for those caught on the fire ground without permission.
SAVEM is currently on STANDBY awaiting permission to enter the fire ground and tend to any livestock, domestic pets and wildlife caught up in the devastation.
We currently have a rescuer on route to collect a koala that has been brought out of immediate danger into an accessible area.
We believe this koala is singed but unburnt but will have it checked by one of the wonderful vets we use to ensure it gets the correct treatment.
The devastated areas are prime koala habitat and we hope that not all are lost but expect casualties in the coming days.
We have started a go fund me page to help cover costs which will be incurred in the retrieval, treatment, short term and long term care of any of the injured koalas which come into our care.
All funds raised will be shared with Adelaide and Hills Koala Rescue, SAVEM, the vets who treat the koalas we bring in and the CFS.
