Mimosa’s Rest

We lost our beautiful Mimosa Catherine Thomas on April 26, 2020 after a long illness. Our hearts are broken and the only thing that really helps us is continuing her important work as a fierce advocate for the vulnerable.  Mimosa was horrified at the hostile architecture and discriminatory ordinances and signs that violate the civil rights of vulnerable people, such as those without homes. The ravages of her illness and the medications used to treat it made her well aware that she could have easily ended up, even with a family who loved her deeply, lost on the streets without the ability to function in a structured shelter system. 

We are raising money to both honor Mimosa and raise awareness about this issue that was so important to her through a project called Mimosa’s Rest. We intend to use the money to purchase benches that will allow the weary to rest, perhaps with some additional helpful amenities, and that remind people to be good neighbors to the vulnerable people among us. We will also use the funds to advocate for vulnerable communities in related ways as part of a memorial to our beloved Mimosa.
