Hudson is a typical toddler. He loves Thomas, Moana, Mickey Mouse, trampolines, his baby sister Violet, his dog Eleanor, hats, his golf club and is full of life and energy. On 3/7/19, just a couple weeks before his 2nd birthday, Hudson was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia or ALL. He is receiving his care at the world renowned University of Iowa Stead Family Children's Hospital and is the strongest little boy we know.
Not even a year following Hudson's diagnosis, the McKearney's were fighting high fevers for weeks on end, making almost daily trips to Iowa City. The fevers were a mystery and lead to a cancer relapse scare. Testing for cancer relapse came back negative(praise God!) but he was instead diagnosed with CMV(Cytomegalovirus). CMV is a common virus that the average person can carry with no symptoms or issues, but for a toddler with a compromised immune system due to chemo treatments, it can be life-threatening. This recent CMV diagnosis comes with yet another protocol for the McKearney's to follow, and another set of medications for Hudson to take until the end of his treatment in 2022. This medication that Hudson's life depends on, is $300 per week. Let's do the math. Hudson's treatment is scheduled to end in May 2022 - that's roughly 122 weeks. $300 each week for 122 weeks is $36,600!!! That's not considering the other medications that Hudson has to take for his ALL diagnosis.
