Don protégé
Hi, I’m Valerie Zouzalik, Luke’s mother. Luke was born with an extremely rarely genetic disorder TUBB2A (an anomaly, not inherited through my husband or myself) that has caused him to have severe epilepsy, congenital heart failure, cerebral palsy, neuromuscular scoliosis, intellectual delays, along with vision and feeding difficulties. He is nonverbal, has little head and trunk control, and does not sit up on his own, crawl, stand, or walk. He primarily receives all nutrition and medication through his gastro button. Luke is currently 17 months and has had 3 surgeries and a 2 month stay at Dell Children’s Hospital including a life saving open heart procedure at only 3 months. Along this journey, we have had to make sacrifices including selling our home and transition to a single income household in order to give Luke the care that he deserves. We have been trying to put him on Medicaid for over a year and have been denied time and time again, so our out of pocket costs for his medical and feeding supplies, therapies, medications, and equipment has drained our savings and insurance does not cover hardly anything.
We are seeking help so that we can provide Luke with:
- a wheelchair
- feeding chair
- adaptive carseat
- adaptive stroller
- back brace
- speech, occupational, physical, and vision therapies
- wheelchair ramp
- intensive therapy
- AFOs (ankle braces)
- medical and feeding supplies
- in home nursing
- medical bills
Luke resides in Austin, TX along with his father, Zach, 6 month old sister, Lucy, and myself. He’s a very happy, tender hearted, loving little boy who enjoys watching Paw Patrol with his sister, singing and dancing with me, and swinging with his dad.
We ask for your continued prayers, love, and support during this time as we do everything we can to finally have our boy thrive.
