Jameson’s Medical Expenses

Donation protected

Our first baby, Jameson, had to have emergency surgery two nights ago to have his gallbladder removed. Anyone who’s known us for a while knows that when Jameson was just a puppy he was diagnosed with a congenital portosystemic liver shunt and almost died, but we did whatever we could to save his life. Our credit cards were all maxed out & our savings depleted to cover medical expenses. We actually just finished paying everything off a couple years ago. He was expected to have a short life, but fast forward 9 years later and he has been the happiest, healthiest dog.

Well, he started getting sick on Saturday December 15, and we ended up at the emergency vet with what we thought was an intestinal blockage from eating something he shouldn’t have (this has happened once before which also resulted in an emergency surgery.) We were in and out of the ER all weekend (Mid-Atlantic Animal Specialty Hospital in Hungtingtown, MD) and they finally figured out it was his gallbladder. It ended up bursting but they got it out in time but he keeps having complications from the surgery (mostly because of his liver problems.) We’re still not out of the woods yet, and after a scare last night where we honestly thought he might not make it, he is in better spirits this morning and seems to be on the mend.

He’s currently hooked up to a feeding tube, had a plasma transfusion, and is on a constant IV drip. Joe & I made the decision again to do whatever we needed to to save his life because honestly, he is our first child having gotten him just 3 months after we started dating back in 2009, and we can’t imagine our lives without him, and even though he’s middle aged, we know he still has a lot of years to enjoy with us! We usually maren’t the type of family to do prayers, but feel free to send all the good thoughts and well wishes our way that he will be home to celebrate Christmas with us! Having just had a baby a little over a year ago, and me stepping down at work after coming back from maternity leave to make our situation work, things are going to be pretty tight. I never thought we would be doing this, but any and all help would be greatly appreciated in this tough time for us!
