SOS - Save Our Studio

Donation protected
Greetings from our home office in Chapel Hill, which has temporarily replaced our beautiful studio as the physical home of Triangle Yoga! The global spread of COVID-19 has brought devastation around the world. We mourn with those who are suffering and send strength to essential workers everywhere, and we are endlessly grateful to be part of such a warm and devoted community. Since its opening in 1995, Triangle Yoga has provided thousands of students with a space for practice and fellowship, and that energy has been vital to us during these difficult times. However, the business is currently at a crossroads, and so we are reaching out to the community for help.

Where We’ve Been

Triangle Yoga classes have been exclusively online through Zoom since we closed the studio in March in compliance with the governor’s orders and advice from doctors and scientists. Our virtual class offerings have been a wonderful opportunity for us to continue practicing together and to ensure that our teachers continue to earn a living. We’re so grateful to our teachers and students for their flexibility and good humor as we continue to navigate the virtual yoga world. We continue to refine the schedule based on student and teacher feedback, and we’re excited to begin hosting virtual workshops now with a variety of wonderful offerings.

Where We’re Going

We so appreciate the enthusiastic response to our online offerings, and your Zoom card purchases have allowed us to keep paying our teachers at their normal rate. However, we still face a great financial hurdle: we are currently unable to pay the studio rent, at $2635 per month. Anyone who has taken a Triangle Yoga class in person knows that the studio is more than just a practice space. The spacious windows, the wall with the tapestry, the rainbow of aerial silks cascading from the ceiling, and, of course, the yellow sign-in sheet – these are not just objects; they are touchstones of our experience. While we can continue to offer Zoom classes and workshops for the time being, we aspire to open fully and in-person when it is consistent with public health advice to do so. However, if we are to continue our lease and preserve the studio for our eventual return, we will need financial help.

How You Can Help

Our goal is to raise $25,000 to pay past and future rent for the studio so that we will be able to return when it is safe to do so. We understand that a devastating number of people are faced with economic hardship at this time and we are reaching out to the Triangle Yoga community in this way only as a last resort. Our initial applications for an Orange County emergency loan and relief from the SBA were unsuccessful, but we will continue to exhaust any other potential avenues for relief. We are deeply grateful for anything you are able and willing to contribute to the Triangle Yoga Rent Fund. With your generous support, we can look forward to the day we re-open our doors and welcome you back to the studio!
