Help Ryker James overcome Pierre Robin Sequence.

Ryker was born on June 15, 2019 to proud parents, Jamie and Lindsay. Seconds after taking his first breath, he coded. He was resuscitated, immediately rushed to NICU, where he was placed on oxygen and subsequently transferred to Crouse  Hospital NICU in Syracuse due to the seriousness of his diagnoses, identified as Pierre Robin Sequence.

 

Pierre Robin Sequence is a set of abnormalities affecting the head and face, consisting of a small lower jaw (micrognathia), a tongue that is placed further back than normal (glossoptosis), and blockage (obstruction) of the airways. Ryker was also born with an opening in the roof of his mouth, referred to as a cleft palate, which is also characteristic of Pierre Robin Sequence. The combination of features characteristics of Pierre Robin Sequence not only manifest as referenced above, but has affected Ryker’s ability to eat. This places him at high risk of Failure to Thrive (inability to grow and gain weight at the expected rate).  It is also possible for this condition to affect his hearing.

 

Ryker remains at Crouse Hospital NICU in Syracuse, where he will receive his first surgery of many before he and his loving parents can take him home, where his siblings are anxiously awaiting to meet their new brother.

 

Ryker’s father, Jamie, is a seasonal construction worker and will travel over one hour after work every evening to be with Ryker and fiancé, Lindsay. Due to the special care and attention that Ryker will require, Lindsay may have to sacrifice her job in the school system, which will bring the household down from 2 incomes to 1.

 

His family is in need of financial assistance to get them through the series of surgeries, procedures, and overall expenses they are going to face over the next few years.
