Ryan's Osteosarcoma Journey

Donation protected
Our son Ryan received devastating news in which he was diagnosed with a rare form of bone cancer, called Osteosarcoma. The tumor is located in his right tibia, and has metastasized to his hip.  Ryan is 16 years old and a high school junior. We often refer to Ryan as "The Gentle Giant " because he almost 6'2, but the sweetest teenager you will ever meet, with a smile that stretches from ear to ear. He loves everything Marvel, listening to Post Malone, and writes fan fiction which he publishes. Instead of learning to drive in the next few months, we will be preparing for surgery and physical therapy to be able to walk again.

So, how did this all start...

During COVID, we decided to start exercising, and started walking consistently. He started complaining of leg pain, and we watched it for about 2 weeks, when we decided to take him to an Orthopedic doctor for further evaluation. They took an X-RAY and found a lesion on tibia bone, and sent us for further testing. We took him for an MRI, which confirmed the cancer diagnosis but needed to be confirmed with a biopsy, as to what kind of cancer. 11/18/20, it was confirmed that he had Osteosarcoma.  This day has forever changed our life.
He was diagnosed on 11/18/20, and has started chemo treatment. His treatment will consist of 3 separate parts which started on 11/30/20.

1.) Chemotherapy with the goal to shrink the size of the tumor

2.) Surgery to remove the tumor (AKA Limb Salvage Surgery)

3.) Continued chemotherapy to treat any undetected/small particles of cancer that may not have been removed during surgery teatment will last about a year. Ryan’s team of doctors have been nothing short of knowledgeable, supportive, and compassionate to us.  We are surrounded by the prayers, love and support of our family, friends, and colleagues.

We have set up this GoFundMe as a means to ease the financial burden that will be incurred as a result of the treatment. Any donations we receive will help to cover medical expenses, lost wages, food, and self-care, and any other costs associated with Ryan’s fight against cancer.

Any and all donations are greatly appreciated as they directly go towards supporting Ryan. If you are unable to give during this time, prayers, messages of hope and encouragement are always welcomed.
