On January 7th, 2018, Ryan was driving on I-5 south to attend one of several interviews lined up for residency as part of his training to become a doctor.
A car driving in the wrong direction of traffic struck Ryan's car.
Ryan was killed in that accident, leaving his two boys, and his wife who is expecting their 3rd child this month.
He loved the Avengers and anything super-hero related, perhaps because he loved the idea of filling that role in any capacity. He loved being the super hero for his two boys, he loved the idea of being a doctor and saving lives.
(That's Ryan, as Captain America, you can always tell a Folsom by their huge smile.)
He looked in your eyes when you talked to him, and had a laugh that made you feel like you were the funniest person in the world.
In his world, everyone was his "bro" or his "buddy".
This campaign's purpose is to help provide for his wife and children. The young family was all-in for his medical training and now, in place of the hope of a stable income one day, has been replaced with uncertainty.
Perhaps only those who have been through medical school themselves really understand the forward thinking that's required. You sacrafice your sleep, your health, your imediate financial security, and sometimes even a level of your relationships with loved ones because of the hope you're holding in your family's future.
And when that future is ripped away, imagine that feeling of vulnerability... How exposed and susceptible you feel...
For the sake of those two boys, and Ryan's grieving pregnant widow, we hope that you'll join us in giving what you can to help them. While it will never replace the missing father and husband, it can help get them closer towards the life Ryan was hoping to provide for them himself.
