The Alvarez Family

Hey everyone, I need your help to come together and help raise money for an amazing friend and his family. Ryan Alvarez is the most caring and humble guy I’ve ever met and he needs our help. The Alvarez family’s story starts back in 2015 when Ryan’s wife Jenifer discovered a lump on her chest while doing a self examination. Jenifer is a loving mother of two beautiful boys (age 7 and 5) and a wife to the most loving and caring husband she could ever wish for. She is also the youngest daughter to the most selfless woman, who has put her entire life on hold to help take care of her family while Jenifer continues her battle with cancer.

In May 2015, Jenifer received a call that would change her life forever. She was informed that she had triple negative breast cancer and would have to start treatment right away. June 1st she started her treatments of chemotherapy. After two months of going through treatments, Jenifer was examining herself and realized that the lump on her breast was getting bigger. Immediately she called the doctor to explain to them what she had found. The doctor suggested to her that they stop treatment and to proceed with surgery. The surgery consisted of a double mastectomy and then to continue chemo only a month later. After her chemo was completed she had to undergo six weeks of radiation. Unfortunately, three weeks into radiation treatments, she found out that she had developed a new lump in the area where her right side breast had been removed. Once again she was informed by doctors to stop treatment and undergo a second surgery.  After her second surgery and finishing her radiation treatments, Jenifer received some of the best news she thought she would ever hear. Jenifer was told that she was cancer free!

In August of 2016, while examining herself again, she came across a another lump. Immediately she called the doctor to relate the devastating news. The doctors then conducted another biopsy were she was told that the biopsy was negative and cancer free. Being told that she was cancer free again and getting such wonderful news Jenifer and her family decided that they wanted to start a new, cancer free life in Columbus, Ohio. When they finally moved to Ohio from New York she needed to follow up with a new set of doctors. Once the Alavarez family was settled in, Jenifer scheduled her follow up appointments at the James. On her first visit at the James she was given the news that things didn’t look good.  From that point on she has been going through surgeries, chemo therapy, and radiation treatments. She has gone from stage 3 cancer to now being diagnosed with stage 4. With her loving family and God  by her side, she continues her fight against cancer.

When Ryan told me her story I wanted to do something to try and help Jenifer and her family out. Her husband Ryan is not the type of person to ask for help from anyone. He is the type that would be willing to offer the shirt off of his back in a heartbeat to anyone in need.I asked Ryan what’s  the one thing his family wanted to do once Jenifer is finished with treatments and finally beats cancer once and for all. He told me he would love to take his family on vacation. He really wants to take his family to the Nickelodeon Studio's in Punta Cana but is not sure how he would ever afford for a family of four to go. I know with the power of the Columbus community we can come together and help raise money for the wonderful Alavarez family. Even if they are unable to go (due to Jenifer possibly being unable to travel) they will be able to use the money to help with medical expenses. Please help me share Jenifer’s story as she continues the fight to end her battle with cancer.
