Luca’s Youth Sailing World Championship Fund

Hello everyone, my name is Luca. I am from Antigua & Barbuda, a beautiful twin island nation in the Caribbean. For sports, I dedicate my time to Laser sailing at our local yacht club. I’ve been sailing since I was five, and it’s now a major aspect of my planned future.

In February 2020, you already helped me go to Martinique for my first international regatta, and for that I’m forever grateful, it was spectacular! In December 2021, I have been invited to represent Antigua & Barbuda in the Laser division of the Youth Sailing World Championships in Oman! I’m very excited to travel again and compete against unfamiliar faces in a completely new country. But big competitions come with large expenses, which are difficult to afford alone. This is why I am asking for financial aid for my journey to Oman to compete against the World’s top youth Laser sailors.

I have been recognized as an emerging nations athlete, and have received some funding for myself from World Sailing. However, it is impossible for me to compete without my coach, and so I will need to cover his travel expenses. Altogether, here is the minimum budget for me to attend the event:

Flights: $2,650

Entrance fee & accommodation: $1,750

New equipment: $350

Travel expenses: $250

Total: $5,000

I would be super thankful for any donation towards my dream of competing at the Youth Sailing World Championships in Oman. It may not seem so, but a donation of any size is incredibly helpful towards my goal.

I’m looking forward to learning so much more about sailing, meeting all sorts of different people from different places, and seeing a new part of the World.
