Half Marathon for Palestine

On March 24th we’ll be running the Wicklow Gaol Half Marathon, just a little over half the length of the Gaza Strip where over 70% of Palestinians’ homes have been destroyed by Israel with the use of US arms.

According to the WHO , only 7 of 12 hospitals in southern Gaza remain partially functional, with the Al-Kheir Hospital and Nasser Medical Complex only minimally functioning and are now inaccessible.

Médecins Sans Frontières / Doctors Without Borders (MSF) have been working in deplorable conditions in Gaza to help provide life saving support, alongside the Palestine Red Crescent Society, as well as providing trauma care, mental health support, and essential donations to displaced communities in the West Bank. Unfortunately as more medical centres are targeted by Israel, MSF staff and their families have also lost their lives as they try to save the lives of others.

“Medical staff should not have to choose between saving their own lives and those of their patients.”

The genocide in Palestine casts the darkest of clouds over what is supposed to be the most sacred time of year for Muslims as Ramadan approaches on the 10th of March. When someone cannot fast during Ramadan, they pay fidya for someone else to be fed for whom going hungry for long periods of time is not a choice.
