Minneapolis South Debate to Berkeley!

Hi everyone!
We’re from South High School, a public school in Minneapolis and member of the Minnesota Urban Debate League. This year our debate team has grown tremendously and achieved numerous successes. We now have over forty students on our team, and have been lucky enough to compete at highly competitive tournaments around the Midwest. Through hard work and intensive practice, we have taken home trophies at nearly every tournament we have attended. Among our many achievements, Marie Stebbings (senior) and Gabe Chang-Deutsch (sophomore) qualified to the prestigious Tournament of Champions after acquiring their second “bid” in early December. In addition, B Fei (senior) and Gabe Ferguson (senior) advanced to elimination rounds at many tournaments.
We are hoping to raise enough money to attend one more tournament - the 2019 Cal Invitational at University of California - Berkeley! The Cal Invitational would be a chance for our top debaters to refine their skills against some of the best teams in the nation, and for our younger debaters to grow and experience debate on the national circuit.
Debate has become an integral part of, and shaped, each of our lives. It inspires us to be advocates and critically analyze the world around us. As members of the Minnesota Urban Debate League we’ve learned the importance of supporting the people around us. Our debaters are all active in our community; we hold down art, law, and politics internships, lead student groups within South High School, write articles for international journals, and advocate for education reform at the Minneapolis Public School Board, in addition to spending upwards of twenty hours a week on debate.
Any donation helps out! It will go towards the entry, travel and housing costs of the tournament. If we do not meet OR exceed our goal all (remaining) donations will be deposited into our debate team fund. We don’t want money to be a barrier to success on our team, and all funding comes from our school foundation or donors like you.
