Ruth was born May 21, 1937 in Minneapolis, MN the daughter of the late Leslie and Dora (Blair) Larson, and passed away peacefully after an extended illness on Saturday, July 14, 2018 surrounded by her loving family at the age of 81. Her husband, Mitchell James Chatas, brother's, Bernard Larson, Ralph Larson, and granddaughter's Kira and Kelly preceded her in death.
She is survived by her loving sisters Catherine Leudke, Dorothy Weller, Marie Hopster, and brother Larry Larson; beloved children, Terry Chatas; Kent Chatas; Curtis Chatas; Brett Chatas; Renee Chatas; Denise (Chatas) Cepeda; Jason Chatas; grandchildren, Zach, Jared, Jacob, Rick, Ericka, Rhiannon, Monica, Jackson, Sai, Gisele, and Ajalee.
Ruth retired from Holy Family Church, San Jose, CA after 35 years of dedicated service in the San Jose Diocese. After retiring, what Ruth cherished most in life was spending time with her family and watching her grandchildren's sport & events. She was an avid Bay Area sports fan, loved dancing, trips to tahoe/slots, playing cards with her friends, and enjoyed garden and nature, particularly hummingbirds. She was an embodiment of hope and inspiration, bringing unconditional love, an amazing smile and humor and utmost joy to all who knew her.
Family and friends are invited to gather at the Graham-Hitch Mortuary on Wednesday, July 25, 2018 at 4167 First Street Pleasanton, CA 94566 for Visitation 5:00 pm and Vigil 7:00 pm. A Memorial Service honoring her life and celebrating her memory will be held at Holy Family Church, 4848 Pearl Avenue, San Jose, CA on Thursday, July 26, 2018, Prayer/Rosary 11:30 am, Mass 12:00 with Reception to follow. All services will be officiated by Father Matt Stanley.
