Rush Musical Society Needs You

Donation protected

Back in March Rush Musical Society were a few days off hitting
the stage for a nine night run at the Millbank Theatre, Rush with
what promised to be an exciting production of ‘Sweeney Todd’. We were just over two weeks to go, the show in full runs at rehearsals with an excited air of anticipation amongst cast, crew and production team.

Suddenly the committee faced the most difficult decision ever in
the 32 year history of the society. Due to the unfolding crisis
which was Covid 19 we had to take the responsible yet awful
decision to postpone the run! We had never missed a show since
1988. All concerned were hugely disappointed but this was
subsequently proved to be an inevitable situation and the right
choice. It now looks as if it will be at least 2021 before we can
return to the stage.

We had incurred significant costs regardless of whether the show ran. Box office, programme and patrons income was now gone. We had a moral responsibility to our production and design team, all
highly regarded theatre professionals with whom we have a long
relationship. Their work was done,we had to make sure they were paid. Months of rent for rehearsal venue, ESB insurances, led to
bills all of which had been paid or were now outstanding debts.

We realise all of the above pales into insignificance when it comes to the health of the Nation and the impact of COVID 19 on so many homes, families and businesses and we extend our sincere
sympathy to all who have been affected.

For our part, we have worked tirelessly to ensure that we have met our obligations of health and safety and thefinancial obligations
to our valued team have been met.

In total we have lost just over €16,000 to meet our obligations on a show we could not stage. This has placed our financial stability and our ability to ensure we have a thriving society for future
generations of Rush and North Fingal in a difficult position.

With the possibility of being able to return to full scale productions still some time away your support would be greatly appreciated. Every donation, no matter how small will help us to ensure our
future.

Please donate whatever you can by clicking the link below.

With your help we look forward to being able to bring ‘Sweeney
Todd’ and many future productions to the Millbank stage for years to come.

Thank you in advance. Rush Musical Society
