Running the Athens Marathon for Tender

I’m running the Athens marathon this November, with my old school friend Rosie, to raise funds for a charity called Tender. The charity works with young people to prevent domestic abuse and sexual violence by promoting healthy relationships based on equality and respect.
I really believe that through open dialogue and understanding less people will end up suffering in abusive relationships. Tender engages young people in the prevention of domestic and sexual violence through arts-based workshops to help them to recognise, avoid or escape from unhealthy relationships. Young people also learn skills to help their friends if they see early warning signs that they’re at risk.
Tender are a London based charity that have run many programmes throughout the UK but not yet in Brighton. Our plan is to raise the funds to get them to visit local secondary schools where they do workshops or assemblies to teach young people about healthy relationships. It costs £2200 to fund a 2 day workshop for one school. We are planning to at least be able to fund one school project but hope to fund projects in more schools possibly through further fundraising (maybe more marathons if necessary!).

I really believe that prevention through education can make a difference and hope that we can raise the funds and awareness for Tender to teach many of Brighton and Hove’s young people about healthy and unhealthy relationships.
