Running In Daniel's Memory

Donación protegida
Let's join together to promote understanding about suicide and highlight effective prevention activities. The Canadian Association for Suicide Prevention provide resources and materials to help spread the word about suicide prevention, life promotion, and the potential for hope and healing.

It is estimated that each day in Canada, 10 people end their life and 200 make a suicide attempt. Suicide occurs across all age, economic, social, and ethnic boundaries. The pain that leads individuals to take their lives is unimaginable, and their deaths leave countless family and friends bereaved and their communities impacted.

I am running the Lake to Lake Marathon  in memory of my son, Daniel.

Daniel took his life in 2011 at the age of 23.  My life changed forever that day, as did the lives of everyone who knew him.

My intention is to raise funds for this incredible work.  I will present 100% of the proceeds to the CASP on World Suicide Prevention Day, September 10th.

If anybody wants to join me, it's not too late.

How you can help:

Please consider donating to this campaign and sharing it with your friends and family on Facebook, email, Twitter, and text message.  Each share makes a real difference!

- Suicide prevention is everyone’s responsibility.
- Canadians respect our multicultural and diverse society and accept responsibility to support the dignity of human life.
- Suicide is an interaction of biological, psychological, social and spiritual factors and can be influenced by societal attitudes and conditions.
- Strategies must be humane, kindly, effective, caring and should be:
                Evidence-based.
               Active and informed.
Respectful of community and culture-based knowledge.
Inclusive of research, surveillance, evaluation and reporting.
Reflective of evolving knowledge and practices.

Many suicides are preventable by knowledgeable, caring, compassionate and committed communities.

Canada has a wealth of experience, knowledge and expertise to approach suicide as a public health issue and as a preventable problem. Realistic opportunities exist for saving many lives. With a national commitment and with a will expressed through a national strategy to reduce suicide and its impact, Canadians can move forward together.
