Alan Kelly, an uncle of a student in Scoil Chiarain is running the Dublin City Marathon on 28th October to raise funds for the school. Scoil Chiarain in Glasnevin Dublin 11 offers specialist education to boys and girls between 5yrs and 18yrs from the area of North Dublin. The main purpose of the school is to assist children with a mild general learning disability to develop to the maximum of their potential.
Some children in the school display challenging behaviours. These students need access to a quiet, calm space during the day for the purpose of prevention and de-escalation of their behaviour when upset. Unfortunately, due to limited space and funding, the children in Scoil Chiarain do not have such a facility and must resort instead to walking the school grounds and corridors until they are ready to return to their classroom.
A Calming Sensory Room equipped with soft furnishings and soothing materials is the perfect solution for these students who need to relax, recover and then return to learning.
So let’s make this happen by donating what you can, and working and fundraising together, to make this a reality for the children of Scoil Chiarain.
- Fiona is a parent of a child at Scoil Chiarain and is working closely with school management to coordinate this campaign - All funds will be transferred directly to Scoil Chiarain by bank transfer from gofundme and will be managed directly by school management and the project committee. We look forward to updating you on the progress of the room build and its completion.
