PLAY & LEARN EDUCATION-BASED SOCCER

We need your support!

EduMais Sport is here for the kids of Rio’s slums. Not every child loves to learn inside the classroom. To support these children in learning sustainable life lessons, to become caring, empathetic, responsible, respectful, self-disciplined members of society, we´re reaching them through the sport so beloved in Brazil – SOCCER.

Soccer is a valued part of Brazilian culture. Children can learn so much through participation in sports. This EDUCATION-BASED SOCCER program will focus on developing life skills by playing ‘the beautiful game’.

Currently, EduMais helps 250 children in the three slums, also known as favelas, in which we work. We reach out to them through our English classes, web & game design classes and our after-school program.

Our main goal in all our programs is to develop people by expanding their social and emotional skills.

Keeping Kids Safe

Children in Rio attend school either in the morning or the afternoon, leaving them unsupervised for long periods of time if their parents work. They live in areas with high levels of poverty and urban violence. Children who are not enrolled in after-school programs during these hours are 50 percent more likely to experiment with drugs and alcohol, three times more likely to skip classes, and five times more likely to fail in school. EduMais Sports Education-based soccer supervises these kids during the high-risk after-school hours and helps them develop the vital life skills they need to broaden their horizons and enjoy successful futures.

For soccer to be education-based, for it to develop people beyond athleticism, beyond the fun of a game, beyond the importance of winning, we must be intentional. We want to transform a game of soccer into an opportunity to create caring, empathetic, responsible members of society.

Our Education-Based Soccer program

1) Life Skills
All our programs are based on the Positive Discipline Method. In our SOCCER Program we use these tools and techniques to create learning opportunities that develop important life skills. Students learn responsible personal and social behaviors that grow self-respect and that for others. Students work together decision making, problem solving, being cooperative team members, and learn fair play, leadership and self-expression.
2) Cognitive skills
Students get to know and follow the rules of soccer. They learn tactics and strategies that are used in the sport, developing critical thinking and the ability to act supportively as part of a team.
3) Psychomotor
Students gain enough skills, strategies and tactics to successfully participate in soccer classes, while also improving their cardiovascular strength.

With experienced and Positive Discipline trained coaches and volunteers, the children learnand develop life and soccer skills – they have fun while learning and developing.

By combining these components, EduMais believes in creating opportunities for children and teenagers who love to learn through sport. Make their future brighter – support EduMais and together we’ll help these wonderful children reach their goals!

But before we can begin, we need to be able to start! Support EduMais!

Members of the EduMais family are running the Rio half marathon on the 8th of April to raise money and start our Education-based SOCCER Program. Support EduMais – donate
