Run: Samaritans Shrewsbury to Booka in Oswestry.

UPDATE: Emily's been struck with a monster cold, and so we're postponing the run until Friday 7th October. Get well soon, Emily. X

We Are All Constellations came about after a friend’s death made me ask questions similar to those with which my protagonist, Iris, struggles in the book. Questions about mental health and how much we really know what’s going on in people’s lives (and heads).

Not long after my friend died, I trained as a volunteer with the Samaritans. This listening service provides invaluable support to people who, for whatever reason, are finding life difficult. Not all of our callers are suicidal, but many are. Research suggests that giving voice to their feelings often allows someone who is struggling to explore other options. Being listened to, being heard, can do wonders for our mental health.

It's probably no surprise that I believe books can be a wonderful source of comfort and exploration too.

And so, to celebrate the launch of We Are All Constellations, on Friday 30th September, my brilliant friend and fellow Samaritan Emily and I will be running 32ish kilometres* from Shrewsbury Samaritans to Booka bookshop in Oswestry. Booksellers Carrie and Amy will be joining us for the last 13 kilometres. 13 because the fantastic Booka will be celebrating its 13th birthday in October.

Your support, both financial and moral, will be hugely appreciated! I always swore I'd never run further than a half marathon, but sometimes we push ourselves for the people and causes we hold dear.

THANK YOU!
