Run in Red for Jonah

Run in RED for Jonah.

On Saturday, April 2nd, Cregmore National School Community will host a major fundraising event in support of little Jonah Murphy.  Jonah, an adorable six year old boy, was born in July 2015 with a very serious and rare heart condition. The son of teaching staff member Edel Glynn and her husband Jonathan Murphy, is affectionately known as “Jonah, the little Heart  Warrior”, due to his determination  and resilience.

Jonah continues to defy all the medical experts in terms of reaching his developmental milestones, despite the fact that he also suffered a brain stem injury shortly after birth. The support he receives from his parents, family, friends and the wider community is unyielding. Unfortunately, in recent years, many fundraising initiatives for smaller charities, like those who supported Jonah, suffered the most as a result of Covid 19.

Jonah, despite his progress, still requires round the clock monitoring, many therapies and specialised equipment. Consequently, this major fundraising initiative will allow Jonah and his family to avail of further medical support and equipment coupled with some respite in the form of night-time nursing care.

This event, the brainchild of the staff of Cregmore National School, will see many of Jonah’s supporters take part in a Road Run/Walk or a leisurely walk/jog around the school’s new running track. This fundraiser also coincides with a school based project whereby all pupils and staff will participate in either a full or half marathon between Monday, March 21st and Friday, April 8th.

The highlight of the initiative will take place on Saturday April 2nd from 10a.m. – 2:30p.m. with a 5Km Road Run/Walk and a Family Fun Day. This Road Run/Walk commences at 11.30am, starting at Cregmore National School’s carpark.  The entry fee is €20 and people can register in advance through WhatsApp (087 7206800) or on the day between 10am and 11am at the school.   Those who register early will receive a free t-shirt which can be worn on the day.  There will also be an option to walk/jog/run any distance you choose on the school’s running track which will be open throughout the day.

All are welcome to call in, make a donation and enjoy some tasty refreshments.  An exciting Family Fun Day will take place, consisting of bouncing castles, face painting, music, dance, balloon crafting, popcorn machine, a nail bar and an art and craft stand.

A huge turnout from those living near and far is expected and everybody is welcome. Participants are asked to wear red if at all possible, red being the symbol of Jonah’s little heart. Those wishing to make an online donation can do so by visiting Gofund.me/fd7c6f97 “RuninRedforJonah”.  Alternatively, anyone wishing to participate in a Virtual Run, particularly those living away or overseas can do so by uploading their participation or message onto Instagram  / Facebook “RuninRedforJonah”.
