Run for Cartoneros

Dear Friends -

I will be running a full ironman in October 2024 to raise funds for the Cartoneros y sus Chicos Foundation. I invite you to follow and support my journey!!

Who are the Cartoneros?

The Cartoneros live in the suburbs of the city of Buenos Aires, Argentina, and go downtown to collect cardboard, paper, and other waste to then sell it in order to make a living. By doing this, not only do they find a way to provide for their families, but also contribute to a more sustainable recycling system and a cleaner city.

What does Cartoneros y sus Chicos do?

The Foundation has built and runs an education center for the children of the Cartoneros, providing daycare, food, and education support to close to 400 children.

They also support adults in the community by providing digital education and trainings as well as assistance in job searching. Their ultimate goal is to improve the future prospects of the community through education and access to opportunities.

What is a full Ironman?

A triathlon race made up of 3.8km swimming, 180km cycling, and 42km running. I expect to complete the race within 13 hours.

... and one more thing!

On March 7th, 2024 I broke the cross and lateral ligaments and partially broke the meniscus of my left knee. I will be preparing for the race while I recover from this injury and undergo surgery. I´m sure this will make the journey just a little more challenging. It wont be an easy path, but I trust that having a bigger goal will help me keep pushing during the many days where I will question why I am do this.
