This page is dedicated to the memory of our dear departed friend. Pete Durkan. Husband to Kasia. Dad to Lilly (4) & Alex (2). Brother to Liam, Barry, Sarah, Karen and Finola and a great friend of many. He is very sadly missed.
On the 17th of March 2020, Pete lost his arduous battle with cancer. He fought bravely and with great strength. Pete was 38 years old.
To his family, friends and work colleagues Pete was central to all that we did. The glint in the blue eyes, the viper sharp tongue and supremely talented and excellent Head Chef, formerly of Ballynahinch Castle, Recess, Connemara, Co. Galway. He is sadly missed.
It is in this loss that we are trying to turn it into a positive to raise as much money as possible for The Irish Cancer Society. A charity that was close to Pete's heart.
Covid-19 allowing, on the 29/08/20 a collective of Pete's friends will make a journey from Pete's final place of work, Ballynahinch Castle to Swinford Co. Mayo, where we grew up with Pete and he had his formative years. The distance is 106k.
I will run the full distance (ideal way to attempt my first Ultra-Marathon). There will be an ensemble cast who will be cycling the distance too. This will be a significant challenge for all of us.
We are asking for your support, no matter how big or how small. Whatever donation you can manage it will go to a very worth cause that we can all relate to.
Rest assured that if Pete was still with us and we were attempting this journey he'd be the very person to donate then laugh at us in equal measure.
