Hello everyone! We, Thong Ratanakvimean, Ly Chongheang, and Chhory Vathana, are law students in Cambodia. We are currently enrolling in the English Language Based Bachelor of Law (“ELBBL”) and are proudly representing our university in the Jean-Pictet Competition 44th Edition, taking place physically in Nepal from April 19th to April 26th, 2024.
The Jean-Pictet Competition was founded in 1989 and mainly focuses on the student’s knowledge of certain branches of international law, such as PIL, IHL, and IHRL. Participants are actively involved in role-playing scenarios related to armed conflicts, assuming roles including humanitarian officers, ICRC delegates, military advisors, and other relevant roles.
The competition is heavily associated with the history of Cambodia, in which many of our citizens are still trying to find justice and closure resulting from the Khmer Rouge regime. As law students, we undertake the responsibility of raising awareness of armed conflicts and applicable law; however, we are currently facing financial constraints that may hinder our participation. Yet, we are hopeful that our dedication will shed light on the importance of being part of this competition.
Initially, there was a competition fee, which we managed to secure from the International Committee of the Red Cross (“ICRC”) in Cambodia. Their kind support allowed us to secure a spot at the competition, and the ICRC further sponsored one of our members tickets.
Join us on a journey to raise $1,600 for the Jean-Pictet Competition, aiming at empowering underprivileged youth to build a brighter future. Every dollar you donate makes a difference.
Here’s how your contribution will make a difference:
• $1,600: Flight tickets for 2 persons
This crowdfunding campaign is not just about reaching a financial target; it’s about building a community of like-minded individuals who believe in the power of education to transform lives. Your support will create a ripple effect of positive change, reaching far beyond the competition itself.
The GoFundMe platform does not support donations directly into Cambodia; hence, the current crowdfunding is being managed in Sweden by our senior.
Thank you for your support.
