Funeral & Memorial Fund For An Unsung Hero

Hi, I’m James and here is a story of how one remarkable woman overcame infinitely small odds.

I should preface this by saying I shouldn’t really be here; “you will never carry children Mrs Baker” a young doctor uttered harrowing words to my mum.

I arrived, quickly followed by my sister, Katie and we flourished. My sister and I grew up in not-ideal circumstances, a broken but loving home. My Father became an alcoholic after the passing of his own Dad, and whilst we were never physically harmed the emotional toll passed on to us all. One thing remained constant, the rock, the foundation of the thing we know as family. Mum.
Mum battled through the demons my father encountered and helped him overcome the bottle. This story would be remarkable and warrant an applause in itself however Mum did this all whilst raising 2 children, maintaining the home and being critically ill herself with Renal Failure.

Close calls became more frequent and Mum’s health began to deteriorate. But a lifeline was presented. A donor. The operation went ahead, and for the first time in my life I saw my mum was happy. Happy like the happiness she brought unto the family.

However luck was never really mums things and this soon failed, back to dialysis, where she would drain 4 hours of her life away every other day for the remainder of her days. The passing of my father hit hard, a bout with sepsis (kills 1 in 3) was the next hard hitting chapter. She swept those aside. A 50% chance of death heart operation was simply pushed under the rug like it didn’t happen, awake and responsive within 3 days.  Whilst sleight of frame, weak she was not.
You just could not keep this old lady down.

However all good things must come to an end. On Saturday 16th July, mums number had finally been called. Another battle with sepsis, this time coming out on the losing side. Words cannot express how hard and how long this little old lady I call mum has fought in her life.

All I ask now is a little a help from those that she helped through trouble and strife. Let’s give Wendy, Mum, whichever name under the sun you knew her as, the send off she deserves.

Thanks and with love,

James, a heartbroken little boy in a 31 year olds body.
