Help bring Jess home

During our recent family holiday to Cyprus we seen hundreds of beautiful cats roaming the streets each day in desperate search of food and fresh drinking water. Many also had litters of adorable kittens. Each day time after petting them and offering them something to eat and drink we managed to walk away knowing that we just couldn’t help them all.

The cost to bring any home was just too much to consider and we are conscious that there are shelters back home full to bursting so just tried to put it to the back of our heads. Some of the cats seemed fairly happy living in their groups and done well for food from tourists etc.

Then we met the very beautiful, very friendly, but very scared, timid, hungry and clearly battered Jess. Away from the main streets of Cyprus, Jess was really the only cat we ever seen regularly near our apartment. From our first day she just came to us as if she had chosen us to help her, her small thin body was covered in scars and sores, she seemed fairly young but was clear to see from the state of her wee body she had been living on the streets probably her whole life and had a difficult time of it yet she still wanted to put her trust in us :(

Each day she would literally sit at our door all day, after wolfing down the food and water we gave her she just couldn’t get enough cuddles and attention, not like most of the street cats here. We spent hours each day just giving her the attention every cat deserves, sadly some of the local residents in the apartments weren’t too happy about Jess and anytime we tried to leave her food out or even water out for her it was quickly binned and we witnessed poor Jess being kicked and having things thrown at her.

When we hadn’t seen her for around 12hrs one day we feared the worst - that something had happened to her. We had never went this long without seeing her. When she came back it was such a relief that Jess had returned but she seemed scared and anxious. We decided we had to do what we could to help her as we felt she didn’t stand much chance on the streets.

She didn’t seem like other street cats, always on her own and way too trusting, We took her back to our apartment and let her out her box , instead of making a run for it like you’d expect from a cat - especially a street cat, she just turned to us and stared, as if she was begging us not to abandon her. There and then we made the decision we couldn’t just leave her without trying. Thinking of her sitting at our door waiting when we left for home with the locals chasing her or hurting her broke our hearts. We had to get her off the streets and home with us to a loving family.

After making several calls we found an amazing rescue who was able to help us,

As some of you may know for Jess to come home to the UK she needs :-
• Pet passport
• Rabies vaccine
• Microchip
• Spay (she will be living in foster with other cats before she travels so this needs to be done)
• Flea and wormer
• Flight to the UK and onward travel to Edinburgh

I absolutely hate asking for help, I’m the worst at asking for anything but I feel like I have to for Jess - we need to try raise £’s to help cover the cost of getting her home,

I would be ever so grateful (as would Jess) for absolutely anything anyone can spare to help towards this, if you can’t donate your shares would be much appreciated.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this and for any support given ❤
