Matt’s Medical Journey

Donation protected
My husband became sick August 2, 2019. He ran a high grade fever of 103-104 for a week straight, we went to MUSC-Florence ER only to be told “you have pneumonia, here’s some antibiotics.. go home get some rest.” He became nauseated & couldn’t hold anything down, so he went BACK to the ER and was prescribed phenergan and sent back home. On Saturday August 10th, my mom came over took one look and him and said “Son, get up we are going to get help.” My mom demanded they admit Matt and figure out what was wrong.  After two weeks in the hospital and having hundreds of test done,  a lumbar puncture, MRI’s, blood work, being poked and probed spending 2 days in CVICU and having 3 misdiagnosis we finally were told the he had Rocky Mountian Spotted Fever (it’s a Disease that you get after being bitten by a tick) and anyone who knows my husband KNOWS he is an outdoors  man. Matt’s diagnosis went so long without being treated, he developed Septicemia Meningitis & Endocarditis (infection of the heart). Since we had a diagnosis. We were able to be sent home with a Midline in his arm so he was able to receive at home antibiotics with the help of a home nurse.
Matt went to his two week follow up, and the infection was no better, but also had not worsen. Today September 17,  he had an eye appointment because his vision was blurry in his right eye.. he was told he had fluid on his brain and the fluid was pressing against his optic nerve causing inflammation & he was sent straight back to the hospital to have a spinal tap done to relieve some pressure & he has to go to Charleston September the 24th.

For the two weeks with no answers i honestly felt like i was loosing my husband, for as long as we’ve been together he has been the backbone of our family. He is my go to person, and I’m that moment he needed me more than i have ever needed him. I watched my active husband go from working everyday to support his family, to laying in a hospital bed connected to a machine to help him breath.

He has been out of work for almost two months, he is the bread winner in our family. I do work a full time job, but it’s not enough to cover all of our bills, groceries and traveling back and forth to Charleston. We are not the type of people to ask for help, but we have exhausted all of our savings, and we also have a babygirl on the way in a few short weeks

I have prayed for better days, & i have asked God “why us” and my BIGGEST fear is loosing my best friend. This journey has tested my faith, and if you can’t donate.. please PRAY!
