Ross-Henry's Medical Funds

Donation protected

November 10, 2017 is the day my brother’s life, Ross-Henry, would change forever.  He was headed home around 2:30AM when he was in a horrific car accident.  As he was coming around a curved road in Columbia, Missouri, he hit a street sign, lost control of the car, drove off the road into a ditch, which caused his car to flip numerous times.  At some point during this commotion, his body was ejected about 10 feet from the car.  Because he was driving on a road not heavily traveled and the time of the accident, these factors made it impossible for someone to see or hear the accident.  Unfortunately, a call wasn’t made to the police until around 6:30AM that morning.  He was laying outside in 25 degree weather for AT LEAST 4 hours. You may think the temperature was a detrimental factor in Ross surviving, but it actually preserved his body, ultimately saving his life until he was eventually found.  Our brother was in ICU for 2 weeks where he has some fractures in his face and back, minimal bleeding in his brain, and bruised all over. We don't know how long he will be in the hospital for psychological evaluation and physical and occupational therapy. But we do know that this will be a long journey to recovery as he rebuilds muscle strength and regains his brain functions.

Prior to this incident, Ross-Henry is a very bright student with a promising future. He is a full-time student, in his junior year at the University of Missouri, where he is majoring in Nutritional Science.  He is a member of MBMI (Mizzou Black Man Initiate), where he is a student mentor for the entering class of 2016.  He is also a member of the Minority Association for Pre-Health Students and works part-time at Old Navy.

Not only is this tragedy impacting my family’s life emotionally, the financial burden is going to be enormous as well. My dad just started a new job and my mom was scheduled to start a new job the Monday after the accident.  While this is a blessing, my dad’s health insurance didn't start until three weeks after the accident and with my mom not starting her new job yet, she has no insurance yet either.  They are also supporting my younger sister, who is a full-time student in college.  For the time being our mother will not be working in order for her to be 100% involved in the full recovery of our brother. Without health care and only one of our parents working, I hope you can imagine the stress that our parents may be experiencing. The money raised through this account will all go towards the medical bills from the ICU, hospital stay, doctor’s bills, medication, and extensive therapy Ross will need. We have no idea how much the overall total will be; however, if we are blessed with more money than needed to cover all the bills, our family will donate the additional funds to a family going through a similar situation.

We thank you in advance for what God will lay on your heart to give; and if you cannot donate, please pray for my brother, Ross-Henry Sherman, and the entire Sherman family for restoration and peace of mind through this difficult time.
