Rosalina Torres Road to Recovery

Donation protected
Family, Friends, Well Wishers.. On Sunday September 9th, my grandma, Rosalina Torres, suffered a stroke as she got ready for bed with my grandpa, Nelson. Upon arriving at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital less than 90 minutes later, it was determined that it was caused by a blood clot and that there was severe bleeding and swelling on the brain. Her conditioned worsened by the next morning due to a 2nd stroke and we've been waiting for even the tiniest improvement since. The entire left side of her face and body are paralyzed and a craniotomy is a possibility if the swelling doesn't subside in the coming days. She's been somewhat responsive and seems to be aware of her surroundings and the family around her, but right now it's an excruciating waiting game for positive signs of progress. We are optimistic she'll get through this, as she's already proven herself to be a fighter more than once. She was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma about 4 years ago and beat it. And just last month she was diagnosed with breast cancer...having a successful lumpectomy on her 67th birthday 2 weeks ago. We know she's capable of fighting for her life - we just need your help to continue the fight. As I said, right now it's a waiting game. Waiting for the swelling to go down, the blood clot on her brain to break up, and for her to gain some more awareness and function. If all goes well, following her stay in ICU she'll be moved to another room in the hospital to continue monitoring her progress - which could be several more weeks. Once she's ready, she'll be moved to an in-patient rehabilitation center for therapy to hopefully regain some of the cognitive and physical functionality that was lost.  Rosalina is the matriarch of our large family. She's been the rock, backbone, and pretty much the foundation for our entire family. Her and Nelson have been together since they were teenagers - 51 years at this point - and they truly can't live without each other.  4 children, 7 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren later...she's a beacon in our immediate, and extended, families. She's spent most of her life raising children and providing support to all of us whenever we've needed it, and now she needs us. We don't know what the exact cost will be at the end of her hospital stay, or what the rehabilitation and home aide costs will amount to, but we do know Rosalina has a long road ahead of her. Any assistance is welcome and deeply appreciated by our family. We want Rosalina's road to recovery to be as seamless as possible and we want Nelson's energy and focus to be devoted solely to supporting his wife every day. If we can alleviate some of the financial burden this is sure to be on them, we will do everything in our power to help. Any donations made will go directly to medical costs for Rosalina. Please share this page and spread the word…your thoughts, prayers, and generosity to help her get back to us are sincerely appreciated.
