The F1 in Schools STEM Challenge is an international competition where students design, build, and race miniature Formula One-style cars. Each year, over 26,000 schools encompassing 40 different countries participate in the challenge; In the United States, teams compete in Regionals, advance to Nationals, and build up to the World Finals.

One of the largest challenges involved with competing in this activity is raising the funds needed to machine and buy parts for the cars, and to travel to the races.

The Roosevelt Racers is a high school team representing Eleanor Roosevelt High School in New York City. The team is a collaborative effort among students, administration, teachers, entrepreneurs, experts, mentors, and corporate sponsors.

In 2017, as a rookie team, the Roosevelt Racers placed second in the New York Super Regional Competition and placed ninth overall in the National competition held in Austin, Texas. In 2020, Roosevelt Racers also achieved the Best Sponsorship and Marketing award along with the Best R&D award in the National competition.
