Move Mountains for Alcohol Recovery

Who are we?

We are brothers, Lee and Shaun, and Rok Soba was formed following our three years of sobriety. Rok Soba, quite simply, is a brand that aims to inspire those that are on a similar path. Our decision to kick the bottle has offered huge benefits, both personally and to our family, and Rok Soba is all about offering inspiration and hope to anybody who has taken, or is contemplating taking to the sober lane.

What's our objective?

In March 2019, we plan to undertake a 13 day Everest Base Camp trek. This is no mean feat, however nor was getting sober, and this is the point. We were fortunate to receive support from family and loved ones, which helped pull us through. However, we appreciate that not everybody has such a supportive network and we are keen to make a difference by raising funds for Rok Soba's chosen charity, The Prince's Trust.

Like us, The Prince's Trust believe that every young person should have the chance to embrace exciting opportunities, and help 11 to 30 year-olds who are unemployed or struggling at school to transform their lives. Many of the young people they help are in, or leaving care, facing issues such as homelessness or mental health issues, or have been in trouble with the law, often as a result of alcohol or drug addiction.

Their free programmes give young people the practical and financial support they need to stabilise their lives, and help them develop key skills while boosting their confidence and motivation so they can continue to dream big.

We would also like to donate funds to Club Soda, with whom we have been members since our sobriety. As a mindful drinking movement, they want to create a world where nobody has to feel out of place if they are not drinking alcohol, whether it's someone who wants to cut down, stop for a bit, or quit alcohol for good. In addition to offering all the tools and techniques people need to change their drinking, there is an incredibly supportive online community, too. Club Soda has in excess of 15,000 members worldwide and is free to join.

How much money are we looking to raise?

Our fundraising target of £50,000 may seem ambitious, but with your generosity and Rok Soba's determination to reach Everest Base Camp, this sum of money will make a real difference to so many lives.

How & where will the funds be distributed?

Having travelled to Nepal twice in 2017, I (Lee) have pulled all of my contacts and resources together to keep costs to the bare minimum:

£1,045 x 2 Trek to Everest Base Camp = £2,090
£525 x 2 Return Flights from London to Kathmandu = £1,050
£100 x 2 Insurance = £200

The total of £3,340 is strictly capped. Any under spend will simply remain in the fundraising pot.

Should our target sum be achieved, an incredible £46,660 will be donated evenly between The Prince's Trust and Club Soda. That's £23,330 each...even more if our target is exceeded!

Will Rok Soba be contributing towards the trip?

Damn right we will! Leading up to the trip, we will be running special promotions on our merchandise to help raise as much money as we possibly can.

What your support means?

Your support means the world to us and every single penny will encourage us to succeed even more with this ultimate challenge. It will not only be a huge achievement for us, but will show people around the world that there is so much hope and a bright, promising future after addiction.

Thank you for your time, kindness & generosity.
