On December 6, Roger was in a near-fatal bicycle accident in Foster City, CA. He was found unresponsive by a retired physician taking a walk who administered CPR. 911 was called, arrived and transferred him to Mills Hospital. The staff there quickly identified the need for more intensive care than they could offer, and Roger was moved to SF General Trauma Center. He remains in neurointensive care with a C2 spinal cord injury.

The injury renders him paralyzed from the neck down. He does not appear to have any loss of cognition or memory. He requires a ventilator for breathing and can only communicate with facial expressions because of the intubation. He will have a tracheotomy December 15 for his ongoing respiratory needs.

Roger and Marge are the driving force behind Constance Abbey, their homeless ministry in Memphis. Not only do they direct operations, but they do most of the fundraising to ensure the ministry continues. They also contribute from their personal finances when necessary to ensure the continuation of this vital work.
