Rodgers' IVF Fund

For the past two years, we have struggled with infertility. In 2018, we have lost three pregnancies. Over this past year, we have done ten IUIs, diagnostic fertility tests, invasive procedures and appointments-- costing us and our families over $10,000.

After over a year of trying naturally and months of fertility tests and procedures, we were eventually diagnosed with unexplained infertility and told that our likely problem was an embryo abnormality, but there was no way to tell without PGS testing, the testing that oftentimes goes hand in hand with IVF treatment. Our doctor is recommending IVF as the next step in starting our family, but we cannot afford it. Our clinic charges $30,000 per cycle, and more than one cycle is usually needed for success.

In desperation, we turned to the Internet to research traveling for IVF and found a cheaper, low-cost clinic in New York state that will be about half the price. Because this clinic is so low-cost, it is popular and the waiting list is long. We will have to start treatment in March 2019.

In all honesty, we cannot do IVF without these funds. We have tried everything we can think of to come up with the money we need, but we don’t have enough equity in our house yet for refinancing to work. We save as much money as we can from our paychecks every month, but this is still an overwhelming amount of money. In short, the funds raised will help us have the best chance at a biological family.

We struggled with the idea of creating a GoFundMe for a long time, feeling ashamed and embarrassed that we had to resort to fundraising, and tentative to open up our story so publicly and invite our social networks so intimately into our lives.

But, we are at our wit’s end. The struggle of infertility has fundamentally changed us as people, changed our marriage and changed our outlook on the world.

Cody is 34 and I am 30. In medical terms this is still considered young, but we always thought we would have our little family of three complete by 2018. It is hard to wait until March 2019 to begin this part of our journey, but we want to use this time to try to save and raise as much money as possible.

Monetary donations are our main goal with this GoFundMe, so sharing the link to our fundraiser would go a very long way in spreading the word. Reaching as many eyes as possible is an amazing way to help if you can’t or don’t want to donate monetarily. In addition, if you have extra airline miles, we will eventually need to purchase last-minute flights to New York state, and miles you aren’t using or would like to donate would go a long way toward offsetting those costs.

Funds raised will pay for IVF medications, egg retrieval procedures, PGS testing of embryos, ultrasound monitoring throughout the cycle, and FETs (frozen egg transfers.)

If we raise more than our goal, we will use it to pay for travel costs to and from Syracuse, Albany or Rochester, New York. This includes last-minute flights (3 day notice), hotel stays and additional travel costs.

We will be so incredibly grateful and thankful for any donation we receive. We know how tight money can get sometimes, and we appreciate anytime someone opens their hearts to us to help us build the little family we’ve dreamed of for so long.
