Robyn's Fight Against Breast Cancer

On June 9th, 2017, my sister, Robyn Rodriguez, was diagnosed with breast cancer after her annual mammogram screening. After further testing, she was informed she had invasive ductal carcinoma (ER+ PR+ HER-). Robyn made the very difficult decision to have a double mastectomy and underwent surgery on June 22, 2017. Further testing of the tissue taken during surgery and her PET scan results showed the Robyn’s cancer is very aggressive and her best shot at making sure it doesn’t come back is to go through chemotherapy for approximately 20 weeks. Once she finishes that she will need endocrine therapy for about 10 years since her form of cancer is estrogen-based.
She will begin her chemotherapy treatments on August 11, 2017 with 4 cycles of Adriamycin Cytoxan AC (Red Devil) every two weeks followed by another 12 cycles of Taxol every week, all over a span of approximately 20 weeks. The side effects of these treatments are harsh and including hair loss, nausea & vomiting, neuropathy, and fatigue just to name a few. She will have to go through this while continuing to go to hold down he full time job. After her chemotherapy is finished, she will begin endocrine therapy which will consist of taking a pill every day for the next 10 years to throw her into essentially early menopause.
Robyn lives in Copperas Cove, Texas, with her husband, Alfredo Rodriguez, Jr. and their son, Gabriel, who is just 11 years old. Robyn works as an RN for UTMB at the Ellen Halbert Unit. She has previously worked at Crain and Mountain View Units, also. Before becoming a nurse, Robyn worked for 10 years in TDCJ as a Correctional Officer beginning at the McConnell Unit at just 19 years old, she also worked at Hutchins State Jail, and Ellen Halbert Unit. She has a large and loving family and many friends who have been wonderfully supportive of her in this battle.
Robyn is now in need of your help as her medical bills are piling up and she is forced to take time off of work to attend her necessary medical treatments. Following her mastectomy she was out of work for 6 weeks so much of her leave accruals were exhausted and she has already begun compiling large hospital bills.
