What would you do if you were told you have to pay X dollars/month in order to keep your loved one alive, but you couldn't afford it?
I. can't. even. IMAGINE. I would panic. Beg. Do anything and everything. So that's what I'm doing on behalf of a wife & mother I know who was recently told that in order to keep her husband alive, it will cost $6k/month (specifics below). I just can't sit back and not doing. If dollars is what it comes down to in this world to keep someone alive or not (I've heard of that happening to families before but never actually hit me that it's a real thing, until now), then damn it us humans who have any $ to spare, from a penny to a pocket full, let's spare the extra cash in order to let someone keep LIVING.
June is a full-time nurse, wife and mom who has been taking care of her husband Robert who has been battling cancer (Renal cell carcinoma with mets to the lungs and adrenal glands) for the past 6 years. It kills him that his cancer keeps him from providing for his wife, and that it in fact makes her the sole provider. (And on top of that, June is picking up extra 12 hour shifts on top of her already full-time+ RN schedule in order to earn any extra money possible towards Roberts medical care.) But they are a true team, a true marriage, a true love story. June never complains. In fact she's one of the kindest, generous, most optimistic souls that you would have no idea that she is going through this. She is doing EVERYTHING she can to afford her husband's life and future...
After being told that it will cost $6k/month for Robert’s medical care, June scrambled to find a solution, and so far that solution has been a new medical insurance that will now instead cost about $1k/month, plus their $12k medical debt fees of course. That is still a mortgage payment and then some, and surely not a “solution” - nor do we know how long this "solution" will last! This is a faithful couple who needs and most importantly DESERVES outside help.
When thinking of what the $ goal should be, I realized that Robert and June’s 30th wedding anniversary will be in Jan 2019, about a year from now. Let’s give Robert & June another year together, as stress-free as it can possibly be given their situation. I got $12k from their medical debt and another $12k for the total of one year of Robert’s medical costs. Let’s go big!!!
THANK YOU ALL FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART! <3
