Road to South Africa

In January 2018 I have the opportunity to travel to Johannesburg, South Africa as part of an elective course for my Sport Management graduate program. This trip will have three main areas of focus- the cultural/historic piece (Gumboot dancing, museum visits), the corporate piece (sponsorship meetings, agency meetings, site visits, tours of stadiums and facilities) and lastly community outreach. I will work closely with inner city kids who come from low income neighborhoods and have the opportunity to get these kids off the street, teach them life skills, get them moving their bodies for healthy lifestyles, and be a positive influence for them.
I will be involved with the Boys and Girls Clubs of America’s NBA Program. I will do a site visit to the Boys and Girls Clubs of America, South Africa and use the NBA platform to raise funds to build more courts around low income neighborhoods as well help run the NBA Jr. Program for the cities youth league. I will also be a coach running basic drills and skill sessions. Any extra funds that are donated to me will be used towards my community outreach portion to help raise funds for the kids equipment, travel needs, and/or uniforms.
In order for me to be able to experience this once in a lifetime opportunity I need your help to get me to South Africa. Any amount of your donations will help me achieve this goal. I want to thank my family and everyone who has helped me throughout this process and continues to show me love and support. Any other donations exceeding the goal will go to purchasing equipment, uniforms, and court restoration for these kids.
