Darren's Story

On the 3rd of September 2018 I had a snow boarding accident, resulting in a fracture of my C2 vertebrae and nearly cost me my life.

I am 40 years old and luckily had amazing support from my wife, three young boys(all under 5), family and friends. The inpatient and outpatient care has been exceptional from varying different health organisations.

During my rehab/recovery time I have learnt that it is not always easy for people who suffer spinal cord injuries to receive any funding. Also during this time I have taken the opportunity to grow a reasonable beard, for the first time in my life.

With these two things in mind and my pending return to work to commence over the next couple of weeks I thought it would be a good opportunity to not only shave the beard off but to try and raise some money.

I believe that the Robert Rose foundation would be very worthy recipients, of whatever funds that I'm able to raise. The Robert Rose foundation have a much simpler process for people to obtain funding/assistance, a lot sooner.
