RJ's Stroke Recovery

Donation protected

On October 31, 2017, RJ Warren suffered a massive stroke in the middle of the night. His heart rate was extremely high and fluttering (atrial fibrilllation) and they believe this is what may have caused the stroke. He was admitted to the Kootenay Lake Hospital that night, and remained there until being moved to Kelowna Rehab Centre on November 28th. Through his stay at the Kootenay Lake Hospital, he progressed from not being able to walk/sit/stand or open his eyes to being able to begin small amounts of physio and movements. His heart is still currently being regulated by medication and will likely be for the rest of his life. The stroke took place in his Cerebellum (very rare) which directly affects movement, coordination and balance.

The recommended treatment is physio to learn how to walk again and use his left side of his body. There was no paralysis (Thank God) but he will have to relearn basic movements. We still do not know the full extent of the effects, it will show further with time but we are hopeful that through proper rehabilitation he will make a full recovery!

Currently, RJ is in the inpatient program at the Kelowna General Hospital Rehab Centre, and we have been told he is looking at spending 6-8 weeks there.

We are facing the reality of our financial situation, and coming to terms with the fact that RJ will not be returning to work indefinitely. We have medical bills to cover, as well as acommodations in Kelowna, travel costs weekly (for us), adjustments to the house (railings, supportive handles), supportive services, household bills etc.

We have been managing so far, but the road ahead is long and unknown. We are extremely grateful to our friends who have supported us in this last month with hot, homemade meals and endless prayers. Now we find ourselves reaching out to the community for financial support. Our family will deeply appreciate any donation large or small. We will post updates as RJ progresses.

Thank-you,
