R.J. is a beautiful, loving young man who is the oldest of 10 siblings. R.J. is a loving and gentle person to his family, friends and girlfriend Rebecca. R.J. got very sick after a road trip to Colorado at the end of August 2018. He has been in the hospital since August 29th after going into septic shock and doctors finding a abscess on his liver.
R.J. has undergone draining of his liver, kidney dialysis, ventilation, sedation, and several other intrusive measures to determine the cause of his sickness so as to provide R.J. treatment.
The abscess in R.J.'s liver has wreaked havoc on his body and left many very talented medical professionals scratching their heads as to what was making R.J. so sick. On September 11, 2018 the doctors were finally able to pinpoint a bacteria that was causing R.J.'s body to shut down after a "PCR" was sent for testing to Washington University. A "PCR" is the most sensitive of existing rapid methods to detect microbial pathogens. Things were looking positive for R.J. as the infectious disease/bacteria was detected and the abscess in R.J.'s liver was shrinking. However, R.J.'s strength and fight has been tested again.
The doctors found fluid in R.J.'s lungs and determined R.J. was suffering from pneumonia. A liter of fluid was extracted from R.J.'s lungs as soon as the doctors put chest tubes into R.J.'s body. R.J. developed Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS) and R.J. now has machines functioning for his heart and lungs so that his lungs can heal.
R.J., his mother Rita, his girlfriend Rebecca and his family have been through a war. The love and concern for R.J. has pulled his girlfriend, his mother, and many family members away from work, life, and any semblance of normalcy. We remain hopeful in prayer that R.J. will get through this; however, R.J. and his family are going to need all the love and financial support they can get as they fight through this unexpected medical emergency.
