Hello, my name is Riley Burke and I am writing this with my brother, Liam Burke. We pretty much love soccer more than anything else. I play soccer for three teams, my high school team, Liberty Hurricanes, my Club team, LVU 02 Blue and a summer team with UK Elite. I also help out at the younger kids BSC practices and games whenever I can and will hopefully be volunteering with Nitschmann Middle School's team this Spring too. My brother, Liam, plays for his middle school team and for Bethlehem Soccer Club's A Team and does UK Elite with me. When we're not actually playing soccer, I like to play FIFA, or practice in the backyard or at the park with my brother, so, ya, we're pretty much into soccer all of the time, but since we get good grades and get all of our chores done and don't get in trouble, my parents are ok with that.
Last summer, my brother and I did a residential elite player program with some Coaches from overseas for a week. When the program was over, the head coach emailed my parents because he wanted Liam and I to join an International Team he was putting together to compete in summer 2017 in Europe. We will start training here in June, then we'll be flying to Milan, training and competing in Milan with AC Milan Coaches at San Siro Stadium, then travelling to Florence to train and compete at the National Stadium before heading to Lugano, Switzerland for another training session and game. In between training sessions and games, we'll get to tour and visit Siena, Pisa and Rome too, and we'll keep a travel journal of our experiences and everything we learned on our trip.
We are both really excited about this trip! We have known and played soccer with most of the kids on the team since we were all much smaller, and, since many of them will be leaving next year to go to different high schools, this might be our last chance to play together as a team, so I think this is a really good way to say goodbye. Our parents are paying for our flights, and we are raising half ($975) of the funds each for the team package by babysitting and mowing lawns and shovelling snow and stuff for our neighbors, but we are trying to fundraise the other half by asking you to support us.
To make it even easier to help, the International travel company has opened a prize draw, and for every $12 you contribute, you will get one ticket towards the prize draw. The prize is All-Expenses paid 6-day trip for 2 to luxurious Lake Como, Italy. The odds are pretty good for winning, since the prize draw is only open to teams participating this summer. I can fill out the tickets and hand them in for you if you live far away and they will draw the winner next fall. We can only collect fundraising for our trip until May 1st, 2017.
