Riley Jane Clark (Dec 7, 2001 - March 7, 2012)
Riley Jane Clark was my younger sister Gayle's daughter (my niece). She never had an official diagnosis. She was medically fragile from birth with a tracheostomy and gastrointestinal tube (g-tube) to aid in breathing and eating respectively. She was non-ambulatory (not mobile), with very low muscle tone - needing a wheelchair. She was mentally delayed, functioning on the level of a 6-month-old her entire life.
Even though Riley Jane never walked or talked, she brought an enormous brillance wherever she was. She enjoyed a smile that literally cast a bright light wherever she was. She blessed people so far beyond measure...heart and tears are the only human emotions to describe her impact on others.
At the age of 10 after a bout with pneumonia, she passed away in my sister's arms.
In Riley Jane's honor, we have organized an adventure/impact bicycle ride the full length of the Baja Penninsula in her name-Riley Jane's Ride. This will be the 2nd Semi-Annual such event.
The proceeds are being donated to the Rosedale School that so graciously showered her with love throughout her entire 10 year life.
It will joyfully take six of us (+1 friend driving sag who had a stroke 10 years ago) 2+ weeks to ride the full adventure starting in Tecate, Mexico and ending in Cabo San Lucas.
Our cycling and support team is Hans Vlaar (sag-captain), Kris & Axel Fleischli, Jeff Parker, Dave Grundfest & Dave IV and Greg Greenwood.
