Zoomin' with Cas -A Ride 2 Remember

Donation protected
Welcome to the second annual "Zoomin' with Cas - A Ride 2 Remember" donation page. Last year, in his memory, our family rode the 36km route Cas rode daily along Lake Chapala, Mexico. Thanks to all your generous support, we raised a warmly welcomed $7,000 for the local Red Cross.

This year we will be doing a winterized ride at Method Indoor Cycling studio in Kitsilano, Vancouver. The spin class will be led by Cas' daughter-in-law, the fit and fabulous Amanda de Jong on February 4th at 7PM. Cas was all for sport, community, inclusion and raising a solid dollar. This year, half of the proceeds will be going to Right to Play Canada - an organization that embodies Cas' values - and the other half to the local Mexico Red Cross (Cruz Roja Chapala), the volunteer emergency service providers that came to Cas' instant aid.

Whether in Vancouver, Montreal, Mexico, in between or further afar, we invite you to join in person, in spirit, or by donating in memory of the zest and loving spirit of our dear dad, Casper.

In Memory:
On February 4th, 2014, shortly after his morning ride, market vegetable pick-up and warm greetings to friends and strangers along the way, Cas experienced a fatal heart attack in the garage of his newly inhabited home in Chapala area, Jalisco, Mexico. It was the paramedics from the local Chapala Red Cross substation that came to Cas' instant aid. Of course, we all wish that the outcome had been different, but how would we feel if that help had not been available? Sadly, that little substation has had to close due to lack of funding.

Where the money is going:
We are proud to be donating once again to the local Mexico Red Cross (Cruz Roja Chapala). In this area, essential services cannot be taken for granted. The Red Cross runs as a volunteer organization funded entirely through fundraising and donations and is the sole emergency response service to an area consisting of over 140,000 people. While many North Americans have begun to call the Chapala area their home, 85% of their neighbours are local Mexican nationals. Everyone in the area relies heavily on the services of the Red Cross and your donation, big or small, will go a long way to help support this essential organization and avoid any further undue closures.

A thank you note from the Cruz Roja after the 2015 event:

On behalf of the board of directors of Cruz Roja Chapala, I know of no way to express our appreciation for the donation generated in memory of your beloved husband and the children's father Cas, except to say thank you.

Your generosity will come back a thousand fold, I'm sure.

Again, thank you and your family and may many blessings continue to come your way now and in the future.

Norm Pifer, President
Cruz Roja Chapala Delegaation Chapala

We are also very excited to also be donating to Right to Play Canada. Right to Play is a global organization that uses the transformative power of play to educate and empower children facing adversity. It was founded in 2000 by Johann Olav Koss, a four-time Olympic gold medalist and social entrepreneur. Through sports and games, RTP helps children build essential life skills and better futures, while driving social change in their communities with lasting impact. RTP works in over 20 countries including Canada and reaches one million children in their regular weekly activities.

A big thank you to Method Indoor Cycling for donating their space and to Amanda for donating her time to make this event happen.

Dad was all about sport, community and making things happen. From the days of picking up his beautiful wife (OUR MOM) on the basketball court, to pounding the pavement with his Vrroom sports beverage company, to lobbying for a squash club defibrillator... Casper was a doer. Please join us in honouring this go-getter spirit.
