Our sweet and precious Dad, Rick J. Sedlacek Sr. passed away peacefully on Wednesday morning, May 23, 2018 from Lewy Body Dementia. We are so proud of him as a man and the amazing legacy he left behind. We have decided that the most special way in which we can honor him is to create and manage 'The Rick Sedlacek Olentangy Baseball Scholarship Memorial Fund' to help fund college expenses for deserving young baseball players. Those of you who know our Dad know how proud he would be to be honored in this way! Below is some background information about his life for those who are interested.
He was born July 29, 1943 in Cleveland, Ohio. He graduated from Benedictine High School and attended Kent State University. He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army.
On September 18, 1965 in St. Catherine Catholic Church, Rick married the love of his life Mary. Together they shared almost 53 years of marriage working and raising a family. He worked as a project manager for AT&T, retiring after 40 years.
Rick was a faithful and active member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Delaware where he served in many capacities including Director of the RCIA program for 15 years and as a Eucharistic minister. He was also a 3rd degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council #1056 and was awarded the 2012 St. Mary Harvest Ball honoree. He was inducted into the Olentangy High School Hall of Fame in 2012.
Having a passion for the game of baseball since age 5, Rick played baseball and softball for many years and some would say he never stopped playing. He was an avid fan of Cleveland sports teams – Indians, Browns and Cavaliers.
He was a proud father of Susan, Nancy and Rick, Jr. He loved his daughter-in-law, Janet and sons-in-law, Jay and Bryan as his own and beamed with love and joy when he spoke of his grandchildren – Kianna, Lindsay, Austin, Halle, Natalie and Courtney.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 29, 2018 from 2 – 5 pm and 6 – 8 pm at the Snyder-Rodman Funeral Center, 101 Valleyside Drive, Delaware. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, March 30, 2018 at 10:00 am with Rev. Fr. Michael Watson and Rev. Fr. James Black officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery with military honors conducted by the Delaware County Veterans Association.
