Richard II at the Jack Studio Theatre

We are We Are Animate, an educational theatre company based in the UK. We formed in 2012 and have toured several shows over the years, including Bitesize Chekhov, Love Lab, Hunter & Johnny, Roughs and Supertramp. We also regularly run workshops in schools and youth theatres.

Our next project is Richard II at the Jack Studio Theatre in South East London. This is our most ambitious project to date, tackling important themes and utilising a creative team of 12 people. Originally, the show was meant to go ahead in April 2020, but a little thing called Covid put paid to that. After much to-ing and fro-ing, we finally have new confirmed performance dates of 22nd February - 5th March 2022.

As with so many theatre companies, Covid was absolutely devastating for us, utterly flooring all our plans for 2020 and 2021, and squeezing all of our savings out of us. Despite this, the promise of finally getting this project off the ground has kept us going, but we need your help.

We are hopeful of retaining the majority of the original cast, our creative team is all on board, and we have had fantastic support from the venue. However, marketing costs, rehearsal space and production costs are things that we need support towards. We are hopeful of a decent box office return, but the less risk we can go in with, the better. This is where you come in.

If you are passionate about supporting the return of the live arts sector, and believe that we have something to offer the industry and our audience with this project, we ask that you please consider donating towards the production. All proceeds from this campaign will go directly into making this a better project, for those involved in creating it, and those experiencing it as an audience member. You would be directly supporting the regeneration of the theatre industry, solidifying opportunities for creatives, and amplifying the offering of quality, vital work for our audience.
