This is my daddy, Richard Prokopetz.   In 1973 he had a terrible accident at work and he lost both of his arms. On September 27, 2017 he had neck/back surgery to correct a problem that was causing his legs not to work properly.   He was moved from St. David's in Austin, Tx to Sid Peterson Regional Medical Center's Acute Rehabilitation unit in Kerrville, Tx. Medicare coverage only provides for 20 days in a facility so he was discharged on October 26 & fell and dislocated his ankle 2 days later.  The ankle did not respond to manual manipulation so daddy had surgery to repair his ankle. He stayed at an assdisted living facility 100 days. Medicare covered 80% of the cost for his stay. He was at home for 2 weeks at which time a wound care doctor referred him to a foot/ankle specialist who determined that the hardware used in my dad's ankle was contaminated and he would need another ankle surgery to have it removed.  After a few days of antibiotics he had a third ankle surgery to rebuild the ankle properly.  Since his disability rules out the use off crutches or a walker he needs to stay in the assisted living facility until he is able to hear weight on his ankle. The doctor expects it to take approximately 12 weeks for him to be ready to return home.  Medicare wont pay for the facility because there is a rule that says he would have to be free of any kind of medical problem for 60 days in order to qualify for another assisted living facility stay. We need $15204 plus we have to pay the balance of $13073.50 in order to stay in the assisted living facility plus he needs to pay for his own physical therapy too.   Please help in any way you can. Nothing is too small as it all adds up. If we are not able to take care of the financial responsibility daddy will be asked to leave the facility. His house is not even wheelchair accessible so he literally has nowhere he can go.  There is some talk of sending him to a longterm care facility some 80 miles away from his foot/ankle doctor & his family & friends.  The doctor stated that he really needs to examine that foot every day as daddy is diabetic & in jeopardy of losing that leg. This has been a terrible ordeal & we need financial help to continue daddy's care appropriately.  Thank you for reading his story.  Please give whatever you can spare.
