The Rice Family Fund

Donation protected
We're not a family that airs our dirty laundry, so this is very hard for us to post and it is even harder for us to ask for help when needed.

I am starting this fund for my husband. Shortly after we bought our first home Alex was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma.
It was devastating news to receive, especially right when we're starting a new chapter in our lives.

Alex and I have had to make some hard decisions in our lives and making the decision to publicly ask for assistance is one of the most challenging.

Alex and I have a 2 and half year old daughter. She means the world to Alex. He has done everything in his power to make sure she has a normal life. Starting with taking a job that would better our lives and in turn moved us into an isolated town in Northwestern Ontario.

Living up North and far away any family, has left us feeling quite alone.
We've managed thus far but it only gets harder the further he gets in to his treatments.

We are so grateful for the few friends we have made here in Sioux Lookout.
We couldn't be more grateful for the outreach and support we have been shown. It's truly wonderful.

Alex has been successful with having his treatments here in Sioux Lookout, however we do periodically have to drive the 8 hour round trip for scans and visits with his hematologist at the hospital in Thunder Bay. The trip can be rather expensive and we have to board the dog and bring Madelyn with us each time.

Madelyn is now starting to grasp the fact Daddy is staying home, and he watches her when I work when he doesn't feel too horrible or doesn't have an appointment.
He has been so strong through this whole event it makes me have greater hope we'll get through this, together.

Alex has been my bestfriend and best husband to myself and the best father to our daughter. He has worked hard to make us happy, with long hours and a lot of time away from home.

Since being diagnosed, it hasn't only been emotionally draining, but financially as well.

I'm asking for your help - strangers & friends - so we don't loose our home and we can provide a normal life (as much as possible) for our daughter.

I will be forever grateful to those who donate. You never know how to prepare for situations like these, because you can't.

My husband means the world to me and our daughter is the centre of that world.

Helping us would mean everything to our family and keep us going in this time of need.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
