Hello to all,
My name is Ria! I am a transgender woman and a social worker/therapist. I am doing the thing many of us have to do in the transgender community and post a GoFundMe for our surgeries because our health system makes it very expensive to obtain them any other way.
I want to let you know how hard I am working for this surgery. To mitigate risk, I have to lose 70 lbs for this surgery and I have already lost 60 lbs! I am also paying for some related costs myself as outlined below.
I am a transgender activist, advocate, and social worker working for the betterment of my community. I have given talks and trainings for Kennesaw State University, faith originations, and several different mental health organizations. Know that helping me feel more comfortable in my skin will also pay dividends, as I will be able to advocate for the entire LGBTQIA community with even more of my energy.
Hormone replacement therapy has alleviated most of my gender dysphoria but I have been struggling with the biggest one, my genitals. I often have to stare at the wall when I shower and be very careful not to look down or ignore myself in the mirror.
Here is a break down of costs:
- $15,000 is my out of network maximum so that is what I can expect to pay for my surgery.
- $3,000 For housing while recovering near surgery site as well as plane tickets for me and my caregiver.
- $2,500 for missed wages while I am not working.
- $3,000 for taxes and fees related to fundraising
- $1,500 for unforseen costs (if there are no unforeseen costs this portion will roll into goal for next surgery FFS, or Facial Feminization Surgery)
Related costs I am covering:
- $1,500 for laser hair removal (needed for surgery)
- $180 for Noom to help weight loss journey
- $200 a month for fitness classes
- $500 Therapist/Doctor fees to obtain documentation for surgery
- Fees for changing legal sex
- Nebulous cost for healthy fresh food.
That total is $25,000 dollars. I know that it is a lot of money and I find it hard to ask, but I desperately need this surgery, so I have decided to ask for help. Anything that you might be able to spare would be greatly appreciated and of course any shares on your social media accounts would also be tremendously helpful.
