Rian's Broken Ankle Fund

The American dream. Climbing the ladder one day at a time. That entrepreneurial ladder can be shaky.
At the beginning of May, Rian Salyers, our teammate and leader at Knife and Tine, an independent, small business restaurant in Chicago, had a terrible accident.
Rolling up his sleeves and getting work done with his team, Rian fell six feet off a ladder. With the swift help of Larry (business partner Carissa’s father) they were off to the emergency room to assess the damage. It was determined by x-ray that Rian had bimalleolar fractures. Rian had broken both of his leg bones clear off in his right ankle. The attending doctor tried to put a positive spin on the situation, stating there was one worse fracture, a trimalleolar.
Rian has put everything he has into the restaurant including taking minimal to no wages. The most significant sacrifice Rian has made, especially at this time, is going without health insurance.
Due to the extent of the injury, Rian will require ORIF (open reduction internal fixation) surgery. He is scheduled for surgery Tuesday May 23rd to implant screws and plates on both his Tibia and Fibula bones at the ankle. Prayers are being lifted that all the kings horses and men can put his ankle back together.
The surgeon says it will take at least 12 weeks for Rian to recover after surgery. With more doctor visits, weeks of lost work, and months of therapy ahead, it's impossible to say just what the cost will be. But for now, this financial obligation seems insurmountable.
Just the way Rian would want, his team has rallied and is making the best of an extremely tough situation. Teammates, family, and friends are all pitching in. Business partners and managers are pulling extra time at work, assisting with transportation, bringing groceries to Rian’s fourth floor walk up, etc. He is so thankful for this tremendous outpouring of support.
But we want to take it a step further and that's why we're turning to you for help. We've started this page hoping that anyone and everyone who can give even a modest donation will pitch in. He needs your help. We need Rian, literally, back on his feet to continue to fight for success of our restaurant!
