On 12th December Millie woke up with a huge lump in her neck under her chin and a couple on the left side of her neck. 111 was called but after still no call back 7 hours later, it was decided a trip to a&e was needed. She has been poorly with a viral gastric bug a few weeks before, so it was assumed that these lumps were swollen glands or maybe that they had become infected.
Watford General conducted blood tests, ultrasounds and an X Ray. And on the 14th December the Lymphologist confirmed he thought a Millie had Hodgkins Lymphoma. To confirm this she would need to undergo many more tests including CT scans, Echo Cardiograms, PET CT Scan and many more blood tests. These were to be completed in a specialist Teenage Cancer Unit in University College London Hospital. Millie was transferred there by ambulance and stayed there for 11 days and on Christmas Eve was given the diagnosis that it was confirmed as stage 3 Hodgkins Lymphoma.
Steroids were started on Christmas Day and her first lot of Chemo started on 30th December.
She will need at least 6 months of Chemotherapy and although the prognosis is good for this type of Cancer, she will have to endure at least 6 months of gruelling Chemotherapy/steroids and various other medications to counter the side effects of the treatment.
on behalf of Millie and her family, as you can imagine this is a very difficult time for them all. We would like to fundraise and help with the costs to help with travel/hospital costs and to help with the funding for a wig for Millie.
any money not used will be donated to the teenage cancer trust.
